Dilemma

I always find that there is one item of furniture which is not officially recognised as 'furniture' but nevertheless always seems to take centre stage in our lives
and usually when we move house the one question always asked is  'where shall we put the TV?'

Although a great invention, and we couldn't imagine life without it

a TV is...how can I put this nicely .... ugly unsightly and it spoils any well thought out room decor unless you have a dedicated TV room,  where naturally it takes pride of place!

Apart from hiding it in a cold uninviting room  at the end of the house,  or perish the thought, getting rid of it entirely

What are the options?

 pop up TV stands

The distressed  picture frame look

The all in one wall unit

This is by far my favourite way to hide a TV

but what if your space is restricted and you don't have the option of an armoire or having a custom built TV cabinet like the one above...

One great way is to take a good look at your lounge and at the least prominent space, and if possible, move your TV in this space.

Don't place your TV over a beautiful fireplace mantel.
Make your mantel the focus point by adding a beautiful mirror or a painting, and place your TV in a less prominent spot, lower down and on a TV stand, or on a less prominent wall.

Another way to ensure your TV blends into the background is to paint or wallpaper the wall in the same colour as your TV, so if you have a black flatscreen TV, have it wall mounted on a charcoal or black wall.

When the television is not in use, it fades discreetly into the wall space.

Has the rain finally stopped?

I suppose we'll find out soon enough!

Have a lovely week!

  1. Hello Sharon

The TV in my opinion is an eye sore. We hide ours in an armour. I agree with your suggestions on not making it a prominent part of a room's decor and never above the fireplace! heaven forbid

  3. Great post Sharon! TV's adore a visual pain! I'm trying to hide mine in a dresser project which isn't finished! I agree the best way is in an armoire, having said that I love the frame idea too! I'll let you know how I get on with my TV dresser!!! I know I said I liked the rain on your post the other day but I take that back! It hasn't stopped here lately!! can't get out to the garden at all!!!!

  5. Hi Sharon,
Great topic, TV's are certainly a problem and not at all easy on the eye. It always makes me smile when I go through interior magazines and there is never a TV in the Sitting Room - when you know in all honestly that the majority of people have one in the room somewhere.
I adore the TV cupboard at the Blog you mentioned and have begun the search for something similar!
    Have a lovely week,

  6. Hi Sharon, You are right the one thing we use so much The TV is not an attractive thing to have in your house, I think the cupboard option is best you could always adopt a cupboard to fit.
have a great week and lets hope the rain stops soon.

  7. SHARON!

Thank you for visiting me today with such a kind comment! I am always so grateful for people who are new to me and leave a word.

OH YOU SHOULD SEE WHAT MY HUSBAND MADE to hide "HIS" 52 inch flat screen TV in our French inspired great room. He built a sort of cornice above the TV and I put a GOLDEN bed crown on top. There are curtains that go around it and the TV is hidden inside! It is quite effective and looks like a cross between a fireplace mantel and a.....PUPPET THEATRE! But it is beautiful.

Come by again! Anita and THANK YOU for viewing my paper shoes! I have two new designs coming.

  8. Good morning Sharon.

I always try to find a way to hide a TV, too. I had an armoire once, but in the house I live now I'm not happy where the TV is.

Here finally is raining! We need it. Spring is been very dry, and we need water.
