How to create a retro look

The 'retro' look is very popular at the moment.  Interiors, much like fashion tend to repeat themselves every couple of years.  The word retro actually comes from the Latin prefix retro meaning 'backwards' or 'past times'.

If you were looking to create a retro look in your living room, what elements would you be looking for?

Well, you'd be looking for an angular style sofa, either in leather or fabric or a curved sofa like the one below.

Sideboards are key to the retro style and there are plenty around, the one featured in the picture below has steel legs.

You'd also be looking for some lovely wooden pieces of furniture, either a dining room suite some matching chairs - Danish design does this very well....or a side table or even a glass fronted cabinet.

Geometric style cushions and rugs and accessories, like the Art Deco vase featured below.

The colour orange was very popular during the '70s - the ceiling light and wall art act as accent colours to the overall brown scheme of the room.

  1. You've made a great collage. I remember the '70's decor very well. I have loved decor ever since I can remember and I do love vintage!
I need to learn how to make collages, my husband showed me how and I couldn't follow all of his instructions, they seemed too complicated.
Have a lovely day, my dear.
